Learn to Swim Scholarship Program

The purpose of the Learn to Swim Scholarship Program is to provide opportunities for families experiencing financial hardship to access swimming lessons (and a free swimsuit if needed) as swimming lessons save lives, and everyone should have the opportunity to learn to swim.

Criteria: To qualify for a Learn to Swim scholarship, applicants must be residents of Ogden City and meet one of the following qualifications:

  • Currently accepted into the Fee Waiver Program provided by Ogden City Recreation.
  • Participant in the Free and Reduced Lunch program.
  • Participant in the Head Start Program.
  • Recipient of Medicaid, SSI, TANF, SNAP, or other public assistance programs.
  • Proof of GEHA insurance coverage.

Application Process

Submission: The application and proof of criteria can be submitted in one of the following ways:

 Approval Process

  1. The Committee will issue a decision approving or denying applications within 30 days of the application closing date.
  2. The Committee may return applications to applicants for clarification or request additional documentation.
  3. The Committee may take into account any criteria mandated by funding partners.
  4. Every reasonable effort will be made to protect the privacy of applicants.
  5. Ogden City does not discriminate based on race, color, ethnic origin, national origin, creed, religion, political belief, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, or age.

 Enrollment Requirements 

  1. Scholarship recipients must attend and participate in at least 85% of scheduled classes (7 out of 8 classes) for which the scholarship was approved.
    • Failure to attend classes may result in termination of the scholarship and denial of future scholarship opportunities.
  1. If a recipient is unable to attend classes due to a legitimate reason, a written explanation must be submitted as soon as possible to the Aquatics Supervisor along with necessary documentation (e.g., a doctor’s note) in person at the Marshall White Center or via email to cydneeclarke@ogdencity.gov
