Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is a proactive crime prevention strategy that focuses on the design, use, and maintenance of the built environment to reduce opportunities for crime and improve public safety. By applying CPTED principles such as natural surveillance, access control, and territorial reinforcement, neighborhoods, businesses, and public spaces can become safer and more secure.

The Ogden City Police Department offers CPTED assessments and consultations for residential properties, businesses, and community organizations. Trained officers evaluate factors such as lighting, landscaping, building layout, visibility, and access points, and provide practical recommendations to help deter criminal activity and improve overall safety.

To request a CPTED assessment or for more information, please contact the Community Policing Unit Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., by calling Weber Area Dispatch at (801) 395-8221. Please reference the CPTED program to be connected with an officer.
