Culinary Water

Dormant Water Lateral

If a metal water lateral between the city main and the water meter has remained unused for a period of 7 years or longer, Ogden City Water will require the property owner to hire a contractor to replace the lateral.  If the corp stop is inspected and deemed usable, then the old metal lateral may be replaced by a new polypipe or pvc single-piece lateral to the meter.  If the corp stop is deteriorated past the point of reliable use, the contractor will need to kill the existing water lateral at the main and install a new tap and lateral to the meter.

Lateral Replacement, Meter to Home

When replacing the culinary water lateral from the meter to the home, the contractor will be required to replace the meter box with a city approved meter box and make sure that a dual-check valve is installed on the house side of the meter.

Meter Box Relocation

Ogden City's Engineering Standards dictate that the water lateral  be one uninterrupted piece of pipe from the corp stop (tap) on the city water main all the way to the meter.  If a homeowner wishes to relocate their water meter box, due to driveway expansion, etc., this will require killing the current water lateral at the main and installing a new tap and lateral to the new meter box location.

Sanitary Sewer

Sewer Inspection Videos

There are times when video inspection of sanitary sewer lines (and storm drain systems) are required.

The camera used in sewer lateral inspections must have recording capability and present a clear picture of the sewer lateral.  Cell phone video of the inspection camera screen will not be accepted; the camera MUST have recording capability. We WILL reject cell phone video of inspection camera screens.

We’ve received submissions in the past where the glare off of the video screen, or the resolution of the camera screen or phone camera compromised the video quality enough that we required the lateral to be re-inspected.  Using the right equipment will save time and money for everyone involved. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Shared Sewer Laterals

A significant portion of Ogden City's homes built between 1900 and 1950 have a shared sewer lateral, meaning that the sewer drain pipe that connects to the city sewer main is shared by 2 or more houses.  Ogden City reviews shared lateral repair jobs on a case-by-case basis to determine the best course of action to restore sewer service to all houses on the shared line.

Sewer Liners

Cured-in-Place liners are one of the preferred methods of repair, as they do not require excavation in the Right-of-Way, they strengthen and cover the inside of old pipe, fixing leaks and holes, and preventing tree roots from infiltrating.  Sewer liners can also be successfully used in many shared lateral situations.  Contractor MUST indicate on site plan and in permit description whether they plan to replace any amount of existing pipe or fittings in the process of installing a Cured-in-Place liner.
