Adopt a Fire Hydrant

Adopt a Fire Hydrant

Adopt a Fire Hydrant Program

Fire Hydrants are a vital part of every community.  They must be maintained in an operative condition at all times, in order to keep you, our family, neighbors, friends, and community safe.

Fires can double in size every 2-3 minutes.  It can be a significant delay in fire operations if an Engine crew needs to search for and clear a path to a hydrant.

The Adopt a Fire Hydrant program is a privilege and important that the adopter take responsibilities seriously.

How the Adopt a Fire Hydrant Program Works

  1. Click on the Web App and select your Hydrant.
  2. Fill out the application.
  3. Once your application is approved.  Visit your hydrant monthly.
  4. Responsibilities
    1. Ensure a three foot area around the hydrant is clear of debris and obstructions.
      1. Keep weeds, trees, and bushes, all trimmed back so the hydrant is visible.
      2. Remove snow around the hydrant.
    2. Do not park in front of a hydrant.  A minimum 10 foot distance is required.
    3. Painting - Hydrants are painted a certain color for the amount of water pressure they hold.  Do not change the color of your hydrant.  If your hydrant needs a fresh coat, we will provide the paint for you.
