Points of Transition + Meditations description:
"Points of Transition is a sculpture installation by artist Cordell Taylor. Taylor's art explores the interplay between nature and humanity, creating organic forms that intertwine and evolve, while analyzing shape, color and texture.
Meditations is a series of films by artist and filmmaker Jordan Belson, guest-curated by Tyrone Davies. "Belson created abstract films richly woven with cosmological imagery, exploring consciousness, transcendence and the nature of light itself." — Cindy Keefer, Director, Center for Visual Music.
Both exhibitions will be on display from Nov. 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025."
it so happened: Guest curated by Kellie Bornhoft
May 31 - September 30, 2024 at Dumke Arts Plaza (video screen) Opening reception Friday, May 31 from 6 - 8 p.m.
Featuring work by Sabine Gruffat, Lynn Kim, Alicia Little, Hope Tucker, Jacklyn Brickman, Kelsey Paschich & Kevin Abbott
it so happened is a colorful collection of moving-image works that unveil their own making. Each of these works takes on a different approach to image-making that blurs the lines between technological and hand-processed methods. Hope Tucker processes cyanotypes in the desert sand as a narrative antidote to radiation exposure for downwinders in Utah Canyon, Sabine Gruffat laser-cut individual frames of 35mm filmstrips, Alicia Little archives the material becoming of impromptu sculptures, Lynn Kim recreates a dream through hand-drawn animation and Jacklyn Brickman, Kelsey Paschich and Kevin Abbott document a collaborative performance.

Weber State University’s Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery brought a new collaborative exhibition featuring dance, film, and photography to the Dumke Arts Plaza on Oct. 6. Coincidences is an interdisciplinary multimedia project and contemporary movement experience exploring shared isolation, concepts of sensory stimulation and informed trauma that impacts the human experience. The exhibition will run from Oct. 6 to April 30, 2024 at the Plaza. Free public live performances were held on Oct. 6 and Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. The collaborative partners for this exhibition are jo Blake, Cam McLeod, Dylan Totaro, WSU’s Dance Program, and the Shaw Gallery. Lydia Gravis, gallery director for Shaw Gallery, said she is thrilled to elevate Ogden’s art scene with Coincidences at Dumke Arts Plaza. “Coincidences gives poetic form to our human desire for belonging and connection,” Gravis said. “Using visual and performing arts as a conduit for creative expression, this collaborative exhibition invites community members to contemplate their individual experiences of isolation, and the potential to dissolve illusions of ‘otherness’ by recognizing our common humanity.” The Shaw Gallery is committed to curating quality outdoor, rotating exhibitions at the Dumke Arts Plaza in partnership with Ogden City. These exhibitions showcase the work of regional, national, and international artists and share world-class art with the community in a dynamic, outdoor civic space. Continuous support from Dr. Ezekiel R. and Edna Wattis Dumke Foundation, Weber County RAMP, Ogden City Arts, the Austad Endowment for Visual Arts, and the Utah Division of Arts & Museums provides these opportunities to the community for free.

Level Up - Michael Whiting
Cauldron - Tyrone Davies
Curated by WSU Shaw Gallery April 2023 - August 2023
A selection of work by renowned Utahn sculptor Michael Whiting and Utahn filmmaker Tyrone Davies will be displayed during the exhibition. The exhibition includes LEVEL UP by Whiting, and Davies’ curated video installation, CAULDRON.
LEVEL UP is a 15-year retrospective of Whiting’s distinctive style characterized by steel minimalist pixelated abstract sculptures inspired by early video games.
Davies’ film curation CAULDRON is an amalgamation of various video styles by an array of U.S. and international artists. This collection is an international mix…that includes ten short works by eight video makers: Tony Gault (Denver, CO), Elizabeth Henry (Denver, CO), Van McElwee (St. Louis, MO), Tim Sullivan (San Francisco, CA), Rosa Menkman (The Netherlands), Carlos Castro (Bogota, Columbia), Ryan Wylie (San Francisco, CA), and Timothy David Orme (Marina, CA). From art jokes to deep transcendental projects, each maker offers something very different. The best way to appreciate this program is to stand (or sit) still, watch, and listen.
