Newly elected Ogden City Council Members Alicia Washington and Kevin Lundell, along with reelected Council Member Ken Richey took the oath of office on Monday, Jan. 5.
Due to a scheduling conflict, Council Member-Elect Flor Lopez was unable to attend the Monday afternoon meeting and will take the oath of office before the work session at 3:45 p.m. MST on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
Council member Washington, an Ogden business owner, is the At-Large Seat A representative on the Council and expressed her eagerness to continue working in and for the Ogden community.
“I’ve been spending a lot of time reflecting on what community is but also what it means to be in community,” she said. “I am so proud to be a part of this community, but also to be in community and to continue the work I do in a greater capacity.”
Council member Lundell, a small business owner and health care practitioner, was elected as the At-Large Seat B representative on the Council and spoke to Ogden’s diversity as its strength and his excitement to serve.
“That is Ogden’s superpower – its’ diversity in thought and in people,” he said. “I look forward to serving that Ogden – to keeping Ogden that place that is beautifully diverse and complex.”
Council member Richey was reelected as the District 3 representative of the City Council, having served as Chair and Vice Chair in his first term. He looks forward to better knowing the new Council members and the unique viewpoints they will bring to the table.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve. It’s truly a great honor,” he said. “I know that we’ll have different perspectives and thoughts and I’m excited to work to continue to make Ogden a great place.”
Other attending Council members welcomed their newly sworn-in colleagues and are eager to begin the latest chapter in Ogden’s history.
“New voices are always very refreshing and rewarding,” Council Chair Rich Hyer said. “Please don’t hesitate to let us know your reasons and your whys. That will help us to be better. Let’s link arms and plow forward for the better of Ogden.”
